Kill the past - Chapter Two

~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~
Eight years ago

He was asleep. Sakura watched as he slowly inhaled and exhaled.

His surgery had taken two hours straight, and Sakura had anxiously waited. She wasn't allowed in the surgery room and frankly, it pissed her off. But she hadn't had a choice when the Hokage came in and kicked her out. After that she had ran off to get Naruto, who hadn't known that his friend had come back. After he heard the story he had immediately headed for the hospital.

Now they both watched their former friend, who was barely alive. Madara had used some kind of technique that ate his chakra away. After he had ran out of chakra, the technique had started eating on his life force. He was lucky he had survived.

Tsunade had come in a few times to check on the patient, and his visitors.

She had warned them: "His condition is stable now, but when he is fully recovered, he'll put behind bars immediately, if not executed." Naruto had glared at her. "I'm sorry, Naruto. I'm doing whatever I can. Just don't get your hopes high. It will never be team seven again."

He hadn't relaxed after that.

Sakura had cried a little. But most of the time she was just deep in thought. Why did she care so much about him? He had almost killed her. And yet she still sat at his bedside, worried sick.

Eventually Naruto stood up. "I'm going to Hinata," he said. "I promised to fill her in about the situation." And he walked out of the room.

Hours passed and Sakura was involuntarily getting sleepy. She stifled a yawn when Tsunade came in. She looked at the girl. By the looks of it she could barely keep her eyes open.

"Sakura, get some sleep," Tsunade said. "If something happens to him, I'll inform you immediately."

But Sakura simply shook her head and said, "I'm not that tired, Tsunade-shishou."

Tsunade sighed. "You know he could hurt you again…" she said. Sakura just sighed. "I know he is important to you. But is he really worth your pain and agony? You are like a daughter to me, and I hate it when you are so down. Please, be rational."

Sakura smiled weakly. "I don't know if he's worth it. I know it's not smart. But I want to give him another chance. And I think Naruto thinks the same. But I appreciate your concern for me. It's really kind of you. But right now I just want to watch over him."

Tsunade watched her straighten the already extremely straight sheets. Her pupil's love for her ex-teammate was so clear. It reminded her of her and Dan. She sighed again.

"Okay then," she said. "But don't forget my warning. He might not survive his return." And with that she left the room.

Sakura sighed as well.

"She's right. Why am I here?" she said. She placed her petite hand in his big strong one. "I guess I still love you, after all."

"I know. Thank you."

She almost jumped into the ceiling and immediately pulled her hand away. She looked at his face. His eyes were opened, drowsiness drawing his face.

"Sasuke!" she said, her voice two octaves too high. "You scared the hell out of me!"

He smirked. "Sorry. Sort of," he said. Even his voice was slow. How much morphine had they pumped into him?

She gathered her wits again. "Sort of? What's that supposed to mean?" she said.

He ignored her and said, "did you mean that just now?" He looked all serious. Sakura blushed.

"I guess so..." she said. "But part of me still wants to beat the crap out of you."

He laughed softly, and Sakura's heart went a 250 beats per minute. CALM DOWN! she told herself. She took some deep breaths. Okay. Heart was stable again.

"Guess I kind of deserved that, huh?" he said.

"You sure did."

He smirked. Then he turned serious again. He opened his mouth to say something, but Sakura interrupted his unspoken words. "Get some sleep, Sasuke. You'll need it."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Present time

"All right," Sasuke said when he opened the door. "First we have to search the bodies, see if they have Bingo books and things of the sort, and then we-"

"Sasuke, I know what to do," Sakura said weakly. Sasuke sighed, and wrapped an arm around her.

"I know. I'm sorry."

They first went upstairs, to the first two bodies. The first one had nothing special, except for some kunai that Sakura immediately recognized as poisoned. She chuckled humorlessly.

"They wouldn't have much help from this one. You're immune to it."

She threw the weapons on the pile of the other kunai and shuriken.

"Onto the next then."

The next body was Ugly. His nose was broken, his face smeared with blood and his neck looked awful.

"Jeez, Sasuke," Sakura said. "What did you do the guy?"

Sasuke ignored her and patted Ugly down for stuff. He had a Bingo book with him.

"Gotcha," Sasuke said. "Sakura, look at this."

He flipped through the pages.

"Woah, this guy has quite the record," Sasuke said when he recognized some of the targets that were red-crossed. "I saw him in the ANBU files, I got a request for
some ANBU guards. We should get this to Naruto ASAP."

They heard a tapping on the window and they swirled around immediately.

It was an ANBU. Sasuke let his breath escape, relieved. The crimson red in his eyes slowly seeped away; his Sharingan had activated automatically. Now onyx eyes looked at the ANBU when he said, "come in."

The ANBU came in and immediately dropped on one knee.

"I am to help you, Uchiha-sama, by orders of the Hokage Uzumaki-sama," he spoke quickly.

"Good," Sasuke said. "Please get these two bodies to the HQ and identify them." And he gestured vaguely to the motionless corpses on the floor.

"Hai."

The ANBU whistled a bird's call and immediately three other ANBU appeared. They grabbed the contract killers by their ankles and wrists and disappeared with a poof.

"Let's go downstairs." Sasuke said.

The body downstairs was laying in a pool of blood. Sasuke quickly patted him down. He didn't have any valuable info on him and the ANBU quickly took him away.

They were alone now. Sakura looked at him with a concerned frown on her forehead.

"What is it?" Sasuke asked.

"Sasuke, they're getting better."

"I know," he said and he sighed. "But I still can handle them, Sak. Really, trust me."

She nodded weakly. "Yes, but still… After all these years, we still get attacked," she said. "Even though we are in the village, with all the protection borders and stuff.
I'm just worried."

Sasuke walked towards her and cupped her chin.

"Do you honestly think," he said, so quiet it was almost a whisper, "that I would let anything happen to you? To Makoto? To Akira?" He sounded sad.

"No," Sakura said immediately. "No, Sasuke, I don't think that."

"Well then-"

"Sasuke, I don't think you would let anything happen to me, or to the kids. And that's the problem!" She was crying now.

Sasuke looked at her with a incomprehensive look on his face. "How'd you mean, that's the problem?"

"Sasuke, you won't let anything happen to me, or the kids, even if it costs you your own life. I'm worried about you! Don't you get it? Every time I'm down there, I'm scared you won't in one piece anymore! And then that impostor attacked me and you killed him. And it was just like you were… like you… I just can't bear the idea of losing you again!"

Then she found his lips on hers, Sasuke kissing her passionately, his hands on her back, pulling her tight against his chest.

He released her when he became in need for fresh oxygen. He looked at her. She quivered a little, and a tiny sob escaped her mouth.

"Sakura," Sasuke said. "Sakura, I will never leave you again. Never."

His mouth traveled from her lips, to the tears on her cheeks, to the tears stuck in her lashes, to her forehead, to her nose and eventually back to her lips, engaging her once again in a loving liplock.

She kissed him back and she felt the floor disappear under her feet when Sasuke picked her up and carried her upstairs in bridal style.

And she forgot about their little argument, and their assassin problems. It all seemed so trifle now, when she was laying in his arms. He was the only thing that mattered now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eight years ago

It took him only two weeks to fully recover. After he did so, the ANBU immediately arrested him and put him behind bars.

Sasuke had now been in his cell for three days and it drove him crazy. He had a bed, a chair, and a tiny little bathroom with toilet, sink and shower.

He was on high-security twenty-four-seven and he was bored.

He was bored to death.

And frustrated. Frustrated because he had been stupid enough to go to Konoha. And then there was Sakura, who still loved him. He had just been high on morphine when he thanked her for that. And now she would be all happy and thinking he had feelings for her.

Great. Fan-girls, a cell, and a trial which almost certainly would result in his dead. Why did he go here again?

To get your ass saved, a tiny voice in his head said. Because otherwise Madara would have you killed you just like that.

Tch. Since when did he have an Inner? Only Sakura had an 'Inner'.
Oh, please! Why did his thoughts constantly drift off to the pink haired kunoichi? It didn't mean anything to him that she gave him first-aid, that she constantly stayed at his side.

I hadn't been rational when I thanked her.

I hadn't been rational when I thanked her.

I hadn't been rational when I thanked her.

He repeated the mantra over and over again, until he almost believed it.

Ah, dammit! He hadn't meant his words to her. End of story, period. If she thought that helping him twenty-four-seven, convincing Tsunade to go easy on him (because he was certain that was the reason he hadn't been executed immediately) and cover for him would change anything, she would be dead wrong.

He dropped his head in his hands. Ugh, what was he trying to convince himself of? He definitely felt something for her. No he didn't. Yes you do,the voice said again.

Okay, he did. But that didn't mean he wanted to. He just wanted…

Yeah, what did he want? If he had needed help after the Madara-fight, he could've went to a closer village. Surely they would have a hospital there too?

No, he couldn't have done that. He knew that he was an S-class criminal everywhere, and they would've used his weakened state to kill him. And in Konoha was Sakura. And she would definitely heal him.

So you just used her feelings for her? the voice asked. It was becoming annoying.

Yes, I did. Got any problems with that? You don't? Okay, then shut up, Sasuke told the voice.

And you want to be accepted back here, don't you? the voice asked him.

NO! And didn't I tell you to shut up? You're annoying, Sasuke thought.

He didn't come back to be accepted back, and he certainly didn't come back for a beautiful, pink-haired, green-eyed girl. With a porcelain skin. And a beautiful smile.
And an angelic voice that always called him-

"Sasuke-kun?"

His head snapped up. Sakura watched him with concerned eyes. He sat upright and said, "What're you doing here?"

She looked hurt when she heard his cold tone. Then she took a deep breath and said, "I just came to check on you. See if they're keeping you alive. Believe me, if
Tsunade-shishou didn't interfere, the elders would just starve you or simply execute you. Right now you still have a tiny chance that you'll survive your trip here."

She smiled weakly. Sasuke thought about her words.

"Why is Tsunade trying to help me?" he asked. "I thought she hated me."

She flushed bright red. "Well… err…" she began hesitantly. "Because I asked her to. And because Naruto would kill her and the elders if they executed you." She smiled genuinely when she spoke of Naruto. For some reason, it pissed Sasuke off.

She looked at her toes. "But if they release you, you'd probably kill them, right. For your revenge... Sasuke, is that- Ow!" While she had spoken she had grabbed one of the bars, to immediately jerk her hand back when an electric current shocked it.

"You shouldn't touch those," he said with a mocking smirk, happy that he had an excuse to not answer her question.

"Ah, really now?" she said, while blowing her hand. "Is this to prevent you from breaking the door down?"

"Yeah, though they are a little unnecessary." He hold up his hand. A silver bracelet hung around his wrist. "Prisoner tag and chakra-suppresser in one," he said with a sour look on his face. "I can't even use my Sharingan anymore. It makes you feel quite powerless. Ugh."

Sakura laughed, and to Sasuke it was an angel's laugh. Really, he hated hormones.

She was still smiling when she said, "The ultimate Uchiha Sasuke is powerless? Sorry, let me enjoy this for a second."

She looked at him with a suppressed smile, but then laughed again. Sasuke was surprised with himself. Normally he wouldn't let anyone make fun of him, but all he could do now was look at her while she laughed and smile sheepishly. Did Madara's technique put in some other poison that made him go crazy or something.

'Course, blame all your, whataya call them? Oh yeah, your 'weaknesses' on Madara, his head voice said.

Shut up.

With pleasure, milord.

He waited until she was done, then said, "Yeah, I finally know how it feels to be you."

"Ouch," Sakura said. "But I've become stronger than you think these years."

"Oh, really? You should show me when I get free. Cos the last time I checked you still couldn't kill me," he said, referring to the time after he killed Danzou.

She refused to show how much that single comment hurt and said, "You should watch your tongue, right now I'm stronger than you." and she forced an evil grin.

"Yes, Sakura," Sasuke scoffed. "You could beat me to a pulp right now. That is, if you have the guts to do it, and if you can get past these extremely terrifying bars."

"That's it, Uchiha, I'll break this bars down and kill you, shannaro!" Sakura said with a semi-pissed off face and pulling on gloves.

Just that moment a ward came in and said, "Haruno-dono, visit hour is over. You should leave."

"Of course," she said and she turned to Sasuke. "You've been marked, Uchiha," she said with an evil grin.

"Hn," Sasuke grunted and he laid down.

She turned serious again. "See you later, Sasuke."

He just ignored her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sasuke was on his own again. He thought about their conversation. Two things were clear: Sakura still cared for him, and he also somewhere deep down felt something for her too, even though how hard he tried to deny it.

He also knew he didn't want to. At all.

If he got free, he would leave immediately, no strings attached. And then he would… What was he going to do then? His team was either dead or gone. Madara wouldn't take him back for sure after his little revolution, Orochimaru was dead, and Kabuto… Kabuto could drop dead in his own crap. Filthy ass. Sasuke felt disgusted for even considering the idea.

You could stay here, of course, his little voice friend said. Yeah. He could do that. But what would he do here? Working with his team again? Hell no.

Hell yeah, why not? The voice again.

What part of shut up do you not understand? Sasuke thought. And no, I'm not working with 'Team seven' again.

But still, Voisuke, as Sasuke decided to name him, said, you could be with Saku-

STFU.

Why are you so mean! My feelings are your feelings too, y'know, Voisuke whined.

That doesn't mean I have to agree with you. And your whining means that you are not me. So leave me alone! How'd you come in anyways?

Voisuke didn't answer.

Oh, so you can shut up? Sasuke asked him.

Silence.

Finally!

He laid down on his bed. He made up his mind. He'd leave, and then he would see what he'd do.

Awesome idea! Can I come with you? Voisuke asked.

No. Get out of my head.

The plan had one downside. It was the huge IF looming over it. He'd leave, IF he'd get out alive. Cause if he should believe Sakura (and he did), his life was hanging on a thread.

His thoughts were interrupted when a guard brought his food. It was terrible, typical prison grub, but he'd had worse.

After he ate he rolled on his bed again and quickly fell asleep.

He dreamed of the coming trial. The Kages were all there, and asked him questions. After he answered them, he was found guilty and sentenced to death. Someone screamed and Sakura ran to Tsunade, crying. She was begging her to die in his place. The Kages complied.

Then he was at her execution, and watched along with a huge crowd, who all looking at him with accusing eyes. Naruto's eyes.

Then he caught Sakura's eyes, her beautiful green orbs. She mouthed "I love you" at him and a huge sword pierced her. The life disappeared out of her eyes, and she fell limp to the ground.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Present time

He woke with a started. Holy crap. The same nightmare that he had on that night in prison had come to haunt him again.

He looked beside him. Of course Sakura was still there. She slowly opened her eyes, and smiled at him. "Mornin'," she mumbled, and she yawned. Then she saw the look on his face. "Whas wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"

"Don't worry about it," he said, and he bent over to kiss her. "Good morning."

She smiled, and kissed him back. Sasuke pressed her back on the mattress and started placing butterfly kisses on her jaw, traveling down her neck to her collarbone.

She giggled and then said slowly, "Saaaasukeeee... This is wrong... We have to pick up the kids and go to Narutoooo..."

"Naruto who?"

"Sasukeeeee"

"Oh, you spoilsport. Okay then, let's go."

"What about clothes?"

"Could be an idea..."

"Okay then," she said and she hopped out of bed. Sasuke propped his head on one hand and watched her pick random clothes of the floor, eye them critically, disapprove them and throw them over her shoulder again.

Finally she had picked a tight fitting black t-shirt, a red short sleeved jacket, a short skirt and her typical ninja-boots.

She held them in front of her and said, "whattaya think?"

Sasuke stood up, and appeared with inhuman speed in front of her. "Totally inconvenient for a shinobi. I love it."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After they had breakfast, they went on their way to the Hokage building.

They passed the Yamanaka flower shop where they saw Ino and Shikamaru, arguing about Shikamaru's smoking habits that always popped up around the time that Asuma died. He would always smoke for about two months, and then he stopped again.

"You're a bad example!" Ino said. "For both Masami and Aimi!"

Masami was the daughter of Kurenai and Asuma. Kurenai had died giving birth to her, so Masami was raised by Shikamaru and Ino. She was nine years old now, and educated at the ninja school. Aimi was their five-year-old daughter, and a few months younger than Makoto.

"Ino, I'm always a bad example," Shikamaru said slowly. "I'm lazy, you know."

Just at that moment Aimi came running by, followed by the barely six year old son of Naruto and Hinata, Hiroshi. Following close by was Makoto, who was grinning widely.

Aimi ran straight to her father.

"Daddy, save me!" she cried happily. "They are going to catch me!"

She hid behind his legs, peeked behind them and stuck out her tongue. Hiroshi stopped in his tracks and crossed his arm in front of his chest. "Cheater!" he said.

He looked just like Naruto, only was his hair dark blonde, instead of his father's yellow hair. His eyes were a pale blue, a result of mixing Hinata's almost white eyes with Naruto's blue ones.

Just that moment Hinata arrived, with Akira at her hand.

"Daddy!" Akira cried with her high voice. Makoto turned around and saw his parents.

He ran towards them. "Mommy, Daddy!" he yelled and he flew in their arms. "Good morning!"

Akira pulled at Hinata's hand and they came to them as well.

"Good morning, Sakura, Sasuke," Hinata said, and Akira tugged at Sasuke's leg.

"Daddy, lift me up!" she demanded.

Sasuke smiled and he grabbed her outstretched arms. She flew up, and almost cried of laughter when her father caught her. She hugged him, and Hinata smiled.

"She was hyper the whole morning, she wanted to see her parents," Hinata said with a smile. "And Hiroshi was so happy that Makoto came over, they immediately wanted to go outside."

Sakura smiled as well. She took Akira over from Sasuke. "Hi sweetie," she said, and she hugged her.

Makoto was chasing Aimi again, along with Hiroshi. Aimi was laughing all the time, sometimes accompanied by some shrieks when the boys almost had her.

Akira tugged Sakura's hair. "Momma, will you play with me today?" she asked, with begging puppy eyes.

"Later, Akira," Sakura said. "Daddy and I first have to do some things."

Akira pouted.

"I'll play with you in the afternoon, 'kay?" her mother said and she poked the little girl's nose.

A tiny smile appeared on the purple haired (yes, purple hair. Mix bluish black with pink, and it becomes purple) girl's face. "Promise?" she asked.

"Promise."

She grinned now. "Okay!" and she ran back to Hinata.

"Thank you for taking care of them," Sakura said.

"It's no problem, Sakura," Hinata said. "I like it as well!" and she smiled brightly.

"Okay, we gotta go now," Sasuke said. "We'll come pick them up in a minute."
And they continued the road to the Hokage building.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When they almost reached the door of Naruto's office the door flew open and a dark-skinned shinobi stomped out of the room. The door rammed close behind him.

Sasuke knocked on the door.

"C'min," Naruto said from the other side of the door.

They entered. Naruto sat at his desk and rubbed in his groggy eyes.

"Ah, I see that you still don't have days off then, dobe," Sasuke said with a smirk.

"Shut up, teme. You go deal with pissed Kumogakure shinobi who knock on your door at six-thirty in the morning."

"No one said you had to lead a country," Sasuke said. "What did they want?"

"Aw, nothing for you guys to worry about. Anyways, what brings you here?"

Sasuke tossed the Bingo Book on the desk. "We found some nice information," he said.

The young Hokage veered upright and immediately looked less tired. He leafed through the different profiles. On some he silently commented, "Oh, so he killed him... Whoa, even Shinichi?" and "This guy is- was skilled..."

He stopped at Sasuke's profile. He read the orders underneath his picture, not a very recent man.

It read:
Uchiha Sasuke
S-class target.
Rank: Genin.
Age: 24.
Place of origin: Konoha.
Home: Konoha.
Reward: 30 000 000 ryou

Don't let his rank fool you, he is a Genin because he deserted the town before he could take part in the exams. This man is extremely dangerous. He was apprenticed by Orochimaru, and Orochimaru was killed by him. He also killed Uchiha Itachi of Akatsuki, the man who massacred the Uchiha clan. Has worked with Akatsuki for a while. Lives in Konoha now. I want him dead, he's the leader of the ANBU in Konoha and has sent out the order to kill a few of my most valuable men, and he killed some of them himself. Plus that I feel sort of vengeful against him. Be warned: he's not dead because no one tried, he's not dead because all my assassins came back in body bags. I count on you. WSK.

"WSK?" Naruto said. "Who's that?"

"Awesome question," Sasuke said. "We don't know. And then there's question of how valuable this information is. Have you seen my age over there? This book is two years old. WSK could have died for all we know. This isn't an awesome lead."

"It's the only one we have, Sasuke," Sakura said while placing a hand on his arm. "Don't be pessimistic."

Naruto slapped the book close. "I'll send this to Shikamaru. Maybe he can do something with it."

He looked at Sasuke, his face showing a concerned expression he didn't use much.

"Sasuke, this has to stop," he said.

"Gee, are you serious?" Sasuke asked sarcastically, one eyebrow raised.

"Yes, Sasuke, as a matter of fact, I am serious right now. This is about the twentieth assassination attempt. Makoto is almost old enough to understand why you hide him in the basement once every few months. One day it will go wrong, the killer finds him, or Akira-chan, or Sakura-"

"I can take care of myself, thank you," Sakura threw in. Naruto ignored her.

He continued, "the killer will find them, and then people will die." He emphasized the last two words.

"You think I can't protect my own family?" Sasuke said, his voice dangerously dark.

"I don't think you can't protect your family from the assassins, but you can't protect them from your past!"

Sasuke's eyes widened angrily, but Naruto continued mercilessly, "Do you want to burden Makoto with the knowledge that his father was Akatsuki, that his father tried to kill his mother multiple times, was the apprentice of one of the most evil shinobi after Madara, worked together with the latter and thus people try to kill him all the time? The kid is five years old!"

Sakura looked worried at her husband, who's face had become passive now. He didn't like being reminded of his past.
What he didn't like even more was that Naruto was actually right. Makoto began to understand, even though he was this young. And he didn't want him to find out about him in a horrible way. If his son was going to find out, he wanted to tell about his past himself.
But still, he was stubborn. He wouldn't say his friend was right.

So he said, icily, "I'll manage, Naruto. I know how to raise my own children."

He turned around and walked towards the door.

"You stay here, teme!" Naruto called him back. Called him BACK! Sasuke stopped, but didn't turn around. "I can see what you are doing right now. Pretending not to care, refusing to say I'm right for a chance, letting your huge ego take over again!"

Sasuke head turned slowly around. Furious crimson red met determined blue.

"Naruto, that's enough," Sakura said. She knew that look on Sasuke's face.

"No Sakura, it isn't," Naruto said. "He finally needs to hear the truth. Sasuke, you just can't have it that I'm right, you can't have it that you're losing the complete control, so you block everyone out!"

"Naruto!" Sakura said, almost pleading now. "That's enough!" She was ignored completely.

"Can you please shove that damn pride to the side and LISTEN to me once?"

He had gotten out of his chair, his hands clenched in fists on his desk.

Sasuke was still staring at him, furious. Finally he opened his mouth to speak. "Is that everything? Then I'll be going now."

He turned his back on them, walked to the door, jerked it open and exited the room. He slammed the door close, so hard the windows trembled.

Sakura looked from the door to Naruto. She was really pissed now.

"Well done, Naruto," she said. "Really. Top-notch."

"Someone had to wake him up," Naruto said, shrugging.

"And you honestly think he knew that already?" she asked angrily. She wanted to smack him.

"I don't know," he said, almost careless. "If he did, he didn't really show it."

"You're unbelievable, you know that?"

And with that she stomped out of the office, slamming the door behind her so hard one of the hinges broke.

Seriously, why is everybody slamming the door today? Naruto thought and he sighed.

Yay, chapter two! It was nine pages in word, and it has a thousand words more than the previous one! I like.
Yes, Sasuke is a little OOC, but it's 10 years after the manga! He's changed (I hope), hence the OOC-ness.
This chapter originally had a lemon-like thing in it, but I wanted to save that for their first time, so to say.
I like Voisuke. I really do. Lol.
Next chapter might take a while, I'm still working on it and I'm going on a holiday tomorrow...

I hope you liked it!
